The Future Pig Farm

Granja Gascón 2 is a clear example of how pig farms will be in the future. A pig farm that is one step ahead, where the latest technology has been used with a complete production management system, both in weights and in feeding.

In the near future, integrators will start to demand a series of requirements in terms of animal welfare and sustainability. In this line, Exafan has launched a new Pig Growth Optimization System, XCALIBUR.

1. Real-time tracking

Tracking of the growth and number of visits to the feeding station that each pig makes, which allows to know the activity and health status of the animals, and to be able to detect, immediately, if there is any problem with any pig to be able to adopt the necessary corrective measures.

2. Weight-based feeding

It is capable of determining the type and amount of food depending on the weight of each pig, counting with a selection machine with the possibility of providing up to four exits and independent areas depending on the weight of the animals. We can say that XCALIBUR acts as a sorting scale.

Thus we achieve a growth curve in which the animals fatten homogeneously.

In addition, once the pigs reach the ideal weight to be transported to the slaughterhouse, XCALIBUR takes them to the corral enabled for this purpose and, with very accurate data on weights, it allows to deliver more animals within the weight limits required by the slaughterhouses.

Finally, it includes a modular space system that allows the farm to be adapted to the needs of each breeding and with one-way doors, so that the pigs know that to go to drink water they have to go to the water area, just next to the rest area.

3. Early detection of health problems

XCALIBUR allows the early detection of pathologies to be able to intervene and save the largest number of animals possible based on the data it collects daily.

4. Productive data

XCALIBUR allows to compare corrals and farms and to have all the productive parameters of an integrator such as IC, GM, CD and water consumption under control.

5. Ease of use

Xcalibur is a product designed by farmers, it facilitates the management of pigs housed in large groups, in addition to making it more efficient and more precise.

6. Daily registration of individual weights

XCALIBUR records the exact information about the development of weight and activity of each animal at all times, which allows to obtain the highest performance of each pig.

7. Efficient management of large groups

The system, together with the advanced Exafeed feeding, is able to feed groups in a differentiated way depending on their growth capacity, age or feed consumption. This allows to save feed costs and reduce the amount of nitrogen excreted.

In addition, a combined ventilation is used, which provides energy saving and animal welfare. The enclosure is equipped with a mixed ventilation system, with windows on the sides and chimneys, some with extractors, that allow to expel ammonia and CO2 from the room, all equipped with the most modern probes on the market.

The farm has heating and cooling, but each system will come into operation exclusively when the farm requires it.

All environmental control is supervised by a computer (CCI), which detects changes in temperature and acts progressively to provide a climatic comfort adapted to each season of the year and age and the animals.
